Valleri Robinson, Ph.D.

Arts Leader, Theatre & Performance Historian, Dramaturg, Educator

Valleri Robinson, Ph.D. is a specialist in European theatre and performance. She currently serves as the Department Head for Illinois Theatre at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, after serving as Chair of Theatre Studies and Director of Graduate Studies for many years. Her research focuses on Eastern European theatre and human rights performances.

Her Background

Valleri teaches courses in documentary theatre, Chekhov in translation and adaptation, theatre historiography, and 21st-century dramaturgy. She has also been a Fulbright Scholar, a fellow of NYU’s The Center for Ballet and the Arts, and a Public Voices Fellow of the Op-Ed Project. Moreover, she produces and curates performances.

Dr. Robinson is the author of Belarusian Theatre and the 2020 Pro-Democracy Protests: Documenting the Resistance (Under Contract, Anthem Press, 2024) and Russian Culture and Theatrical Performance in America (Palgrave 2011). Her expertise as a theatre and performance historian is unparalleled.
